Our Story
In 1743, the Wegman family embarked on a journey across the Atlantic Ocean to start a new life in North America. Among them was Levi Wegman, a determined young man with a vision of building a thriving farm that would sustain future generations. In 1896, Levi fulfilled his dream, establishing a farmstead in a picturesque corner of the countryside. With hard work and perseverance, he cultivated the land, nurturing crops and livestock that flourished under his care.
Over the decades, the Wegman farm became a cornerstone of agricultural excellence in the region. In 1968, Harold C. Wegman, Levi's descendant, took the reins, expanding the farm's operations and embracing new agricultural innovations. Recognizing the potential of viticulture, Harold seized an opportunity in 2001 to diversify the farm's offerings. He made a bold decision to plant Certified French Vinifera vines, introducing fine wine grapes to the fertile soil of the family estate.
In 2002, the Vinifera was expanded to the slopes of the Hessian Camp in Reading, a historic site that housed captured British and German soldiers during the Revolutionary War. The Wegman family's commitment to quality and their reverence for the land culminated in the production of exceptional wines that reflected both their heritage and the unique terroir of their estate.
Today, visitors to the Wegman vineyards can taste the fruits of this multi-generational journey—wines that embody the spirit of perseverance, innovation, and a deep-rooted connection to the land. Each bottle tells a story of a family's enduring legacy and their passion for crafting wines that capture the essence of Reading, Pennsylvania.
